Enrollment can be completed online through the district’s registration portal (Skyward) or in person at your child’s school. You’ll need proof of residency, your child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of a physical.

Yes, if program space is available, the district welcomes a limited number of out-of-district students on a tuition basis. Families must complete an application during the open enrollment, and acceptance is based on space availability.

Williamson County Residents:  If you live in Williamson County, you may apply for tuition at $2,000 annually per student. This fee considers the tax dollars you pay as a county resident, but not the FSD property tax. Families with multiple students receive a 50% discount on all students after the first student.
Outside Williamson County:  If you live outside Williamson County, you may apply for tuition at a cost of $4,000 annually per student. This fee reflects uncollected tax dollars that are earmarked for education in our county and district.

Franklin Special District sets itself apart by offering a small, close-knit community focused entirely on the foundational years of learning, from pre-K through 8th grade. With just eight schools, families enjoy a personalized experience where strong relationships between teachers, students, and parents thrive. The district specializes in building a solid academic foundation, with an emphasis on literacy, math, arts, and technology integration, while also nurturing the whole child through enrichment, rich extra-curricular offerings, and support in personal and social competencies. Parents appreciate the balance of rigorous academics and creativity, knowing their children receive individual attention in a safe, caring environment. By the time students transition into Williamson County high schools, they are well-prepared academically, socially, and emotionally—giving families the warmth of a small district paired with access to the wide opportunities of a larger system at the secondary level.

Yes. FSD offers gifted and talented services, enrichment programs, and opportunities for advanced learners through accelerated coursework and project-based learning. An exceptional honors program is also available for eligible students in grades 5-8. Access to high school credit coursework is available with seven high school credit courses: Algebra I, Geometry, French, Spanish, Computer Science Foundations, and Introduction to Aerospace.
 

Students in grades 3-8 are required by law to take the TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program) in English/language arts, math, science, and social studies. The TCAP includes Algebra I and geometry for students who are enrolled in those high school credit courses. There is an alternate version (TCAP-Alt) for students with disabilities for whom the standard test is inappropriate, even with accommodations.

EL (English learner) students in grades K-8 take the ELPA21 test to measure English language proficiency. Screeners for early grades (e.g. foundational literacy and math) are administered as part of local/district assessment cycles. For certain students, there may be additional assessments depending on special education considerations, gifted learning eligibility, etc.

Students can participate in various activities, including athletics (TMSSA and club), choir, band, drama, STEM clubs, and leadership opportunities. Offerings vary by school.

FSD believes in educating the whole child. Students have regular access to art, music, and physical education and technology-rich classrooms, computer labs, and media centers. Opportunities to showcase the fine and performing arts are held at each school annually.

The district provides tiered interventions, English learner support, and a full range of special education services. Teachers and specialists work together to tailor learning to each child’s needs. Tutoring is available on a school-by-school basis.
 

All campuses have secure entrances, visitor check-in procedures, safety drills, and trained staff. Each building has laminated windows and doors and comprehensive video surveillance. The district also partners with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office to place an SRO in each school. Regular meetings with local first responders (police, sheriff, EMA) ensure everyone is on the same page if a response is necessary.

Students in the Franklin Special District transition into Williamson County Schools high schools after 8th grade, most often attending Franklin High School or Centennial High School, depending on where they live. Because FSD serves only pre-K through 8th grade, the district is able to focus exclusively on providing a rigorous, well-rounded foundation. With strong academics, arts, technology integration, and exceptional education services, FSD equips students with the skills and confidence to excel in any high school setting—whether public or private. Families value this “best of both worlds” model: a personalized, small-district experience during the formative years, followed by wide-ranging opportunities in high school.

First and foremost, the FSD Performing Arts Center (PAC) serves the Franklin Special District and all eight of its schools. Schools use the space for a variety of events, including drama productions, choral events, academic contests, meeting space, district-wide events, and celebrations. Secondarily, it is a rental facility available to the community. Reservations for rentals may be made at any time, pending availability, on the PAC webpage.
