Student Support Services

The Franklin Special School District’s English Language Learner (ELL) Program is designed for students from non-English language backgrounds with a deficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) at a level that does not enable them to succeed in school. Students are given the opportunity to attend ELL classes while attempting the regular curriculum. It is the responsibility of the ELL teachers to teach a child English and to help him/her adjust to a new school environment and culture.

Military Family Resources

The counseling program is an integral part of the total school environment. It is implemented by licensed Professional School Counselors with the support of teachers, administrators, support personnel, students, parents, and community members. School counselors are specially trained to address the issues within our schools that have a substantial impact on student learning.  Serving as leaders and advocates, school counselors work collaboratively to provide services in a proactive, developmental, and preventative manner. Today’s school counselors are vital members of the education team and provide a wealth of services to support students.

School Social Workers act as a link between schools, families and community resources. They provide comprehensive services to families and schools to prevent, intervene and help remove social, psychological and economic barriers that interfere with a child’s ability to learn and succeed.

Social Support Services Information

The  Franklin Special District’s voluntary pre-kindergarten program provides a high-quality educational program through an active learning approach.  Young children learn skills at their own level in ways meaningful to them.  Pre-K helps children prepare for kindergarten socially, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Experienced, knowledgeable, understanding teachers and staff guide them through music, stories, songs, and play. All of these fun activities help children develop academic and social skills as they play. Each class has a full-time state-licensed teacher and an educational assistant.
