FSD Continues to Score High on State TCAP

The Franklin Special District is proud that its students continue a long history of high performance on the state TCAP test, with scores released this week. In fact, the composite score of all four subjects – English language arts, math, science, and social studies – lands the FSD in the top 10% of all public school districts in Tennessee. Moreover, FSD students outperformed the state's proficiency percentage (also called success rate) by double digits in every grade level and subject area tested.
 
    •    English/Language Arts = 17% higher than the state proficiency percentage (success rate)

    •    Math = 16% higher than the state proficiency percentage (success rate)

    •    Science = 20% higher than the state proficiency percentage (success rate)

    •    Social Studies = 14% higher than the state proficiency percentage (success rate)

 
In addition to the FSD's double-digit scores above state averages, the FSD proudly highlights the following grade-level academic achievements reflected by the 2023-2024 TCAP scores:

Top 10 Ranking in the State for Overall Proficiency (i.e., Success Rates)
    •    3rd Grade ELA 

    •    3rd Grade Science

    •    4th Grade - All Subjects Tested – ELA, Math, Science

    •    5th Grade - All Subjects Tested – ELA, Math, Science

    •    8th Grade ELA

    •    8th Grade Science

    •    The district's focus on ELA/literacy is evident. The overall proficiency rate held at 60% from last year, with fourth, seventh, and eighth grades showing the largest increases in proficiency.

    •    While formal rankings are not provided to districts, analysis of the state data released yesterday indicates that the FSD’s achievement scores are in the top 10% of Tennessee school districts across all subject areas. This noteworthy accomplishment is a hallmark of the FSD's exemplary academic standing among the 147 school districts in the state.  It is also a tradition that the district has sustained over the course of many years.


“It is gratifying to see that our teachers and students continue to perform at the highest levels across the state, underscoring our commitment to each student's academic growth and success with a variety of resources to meet their needs. This highly coordinated instructional approach is why we were recently recognized as a state-designated Exemplary District,” said FSD Director of Schools Dr. David Snowden. 

The newly released TCAP scores provide much to celebrate, but it is also an opportunity for district and school personnel to analyze the data and determine ways to improve instructional strategies, add targeted resources, and provide professional learning options.
