Franklin Special District TCAP Results Show Double-Digit Lead Over State in Every Tested Subject

The numbers are in, and Franklin Special District students have once again delivered exceptional results on the TCAP state assessments. FSD is not only outperforming the state, but the gap is wide, consistent, and growing.

With scores released this week, FSD students significantly outperformed state averages across all reported TCAP subject areas, continuing the district’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and steady growth. FSD students didn’t just edge out state averages. Across English language arts (ELA), math, and social studies, students surpassed their peers by double-digit margins:

English Language Arts (ELA):
FSD = 59.8%, compared to the state average of 40.6%
19.2 percentage points higher than the state

Math:
FSD = 65.7%, compared to the state average of 43.0%
22.7 percentage points higher than the state

Social Studies:
FSD = 68.8%, compared to the state average of 51.4%
17.4 percentage points higher than the state

“It is gratifying to see that our teachers and students continue to perform at the highest levels across the state,” said Dr. David Snowden, Director of Schools. “These results provide definitive proof that our students are on track to make that leap to high school with the skills they need to be successful,” Snowden said.

FSD 3-Year Success Rates
TCAP success rates indicate the percentage of students who demonstrated proficiency by achieving Met or Exceeded Expectations on TCAP tests. While Science TCAP results will be available in August after the state’s standard-setting process, the district is especially proud of its continued gains over the past three years in ELA, math, and social studies. Since 2024, FSD has increased success rates in all reported subject areas:

ELA: 55.9% in 2024 to 59.8% in 2026 (3.9 point increase)
Math: 55.7% in 2024 to 65.7% in 2026 (10 point increase)
Social Studies: 58.5% in 2024 to 68.8% in 2026 (10.3% increase)

Math and social studies showed particularly strong momentum, each improving by approximately 10 percentage points since 2024. FSD’s 3–8 math success rate climbed from 55.7% in 2024 to 65.7% in 2026, while social studies grew from 58.5% to 68.8% during the same period.

Notable Highlights
FSD’s 2026 results also show strength across grade levels and content areas. Across every grade-level comparison shown, FSD students outperformed the Tennessee average. Notable highlights include:

• English Language Arts (ELA):
  Top 10 in the state for 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th grades
   
• Math:
  #1 in Tennessee for 6th grade
  Top 10 in the state for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades
   
• Social Studies:
  Top 10 in the state for 6th grade
   
• Algebra I/Geometry:
  #1 in Tennessee in the All Students proficiency category in both subjects

The strongest grade-level gap was in 6th-grade math, where FSD students outperformed the state by 34.8 percentage points. In fact, FSD 6th-grade students outperformed any other district in the state in math. Advanced math results were also particularly strong, with FSD students achieving a 94.2% success rate in Algebra I and 100% in Geometry. FSD middle school students enrolled in high school credit math courses achieved the highest district success rate on TCAP End-of-Course assessments, outperforming middle and high school students in all other districts statewide.

“We will certainly celebrate these scores when our faculty and staff return in August, but we also know we must capitalize on our successes from this year,” Snowden said. “We will continue the authentic Professional Learning Community (PLC) work that has helped bring us to this point. When every teacher is using the high-quality instructional resources we have provided with fidelity, looking closely at and determining next instructional steps based on data, collaborating around best practices, and individualizing instruction, we will be living out our district’s vision of ‘excellence in teaching and learning for all.’”

That commitment will continue to guide the district’s work in the months ahead. While there is plenty to celebrate, instructional teams are already analyzing the data to refine strategies, provide targeted resources, and expand professional learning opportunities, all with the goal of driving continued student growth.

Individual student results will be available to families through the TCAP Family Portal by the end of July and will also be uploaded to Test Scores in Skyward Family Access.
