Dress Code Revisions for Grades 5-8

Dress Code Revisions for Grades 5-8

As the Franklin Special School District prepares for next school year, we wanted to share dress code revisions that have been made for students in grades 5-8.  With feedback from students and families, we have made changes that we consider appropriate as students transition from the elementary to middle school grades.

Dress Code

Important differences include:

  • school spirit wear is no longer required,
  • appropriate garment length is defined as mid-thigh while seated, and
  • although collared shirts are no longer the expectation, shoulders must be covered by a minimum of a 3-inch strap.

Our revised dress code is subject to change once the 2021-2022 school year is underway based on student compliance.  Your support in ensuring that your child meets these expectations is certainly appreciated!

Important to note:  Because we are relaxing the dress code, schools will not be selling armbands as a fundraiser this year.  The loss of funding through armband and spirit wear sales will certainly have a significant impact on the ability of PTO to support school initiatives as they have done in previous years.  We ask that you consider this when making financial contributions to the 2021-2022 fundraising endeavors led by our amazing PTO volunteers.
