Chairman

Sherry Badger is serving her fifth term on the board. She was appointed in 1997 to fill the remainder of a vacated post. She was then elected in 1998 to serve a four-year term. In 2008, Mrs. Badger achieved Level V boardsmanship status from the Tennessee School Boards Association, the highest designation a School Board member can earn.

She has served as Board Treasurer, Vice-Chair and is currently Chairman. She also served as the board representative on the Curriculum Alignment Task Force, the Consolidated Planning Committee and co-chaired the New School Task Force. She is currently serving as board representative on the Sick Leave Bank Committee.

Prior to her Board service, Mrs. Badger served voluntarily on the Director of Schools Screening Committee and the Long-Range Planning Committee. Additionally, she has eight years of service to the PTO, two of which were spent as FSSD PTO President, and two that were spent as Liberty Elementary School's PTO Coordinator.

She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee. Aside from her board work, Mrs. Badger is also active in the community as a member of the Heritage Foundation.

ImageRobert Blair
Treasurer

Robert Blair was appointed in September, 2003, and then elected in 2004 for a four-year term. He holds the office of School Board Treasurer. In 2009, Mr. Blair achieved Level IV boardsmanship status from the Tennessee School Boards Association. In addition, he was recognized in 2009 for Outstanding Board Training by the National Alliance of Black School Educators. A Franklin native and graduate of the Franklin Special School District, Mr. Blair is a strong community advocate.

Mr. Blair's service includes work with the Williamson County Chamber of Commerce's education committee, Board Member of Leadership Franklin and Youth Leadership Franklin, and serves as a volunteer at the Franklin/Williamson County Boys and Girls Club. He has been in the schools as a substitute teacher at his alma mater, Franklin High School, and is the education director at Cummins Street Church of Christ.

He is employed by Citizens Corporation, a full-service banking technology firm in Franklin.

hembreeMelanie Hembree
 
 
Melanie Hembree was appointed by the Board of Education in March 2008 to fill an unexpired term.  Since that time, she has achieved Level I Boardsmanship.   She is an FSSD parent and has been in the design profession for over 15 years.  

She has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Tennessee.
 
She also works in the community, in her church, with the Boy Scouts, and volunteers often at her children's schools.

Kent McNish
Vice-Chair


Kent McNish was appointed in 1994 when a previous board member resigned, and was elected later in 1994 in the general election. He has served continuously ever since. In 2008, Mr. McNish achieved Level V boardsmanship status from the Tennessee School Boards Association, the highest designation a School Board member can earn.

 In addition, he was named to the 2008 TSBA All-Tennessee School Board, which recognizes superior levels of quality service and leadership activities.

He has served the board as vice-chair, chaired the Long-Range Planning Committee, and was board representative on the Community Outreach Task Force.  He is the FSSD representative on the Tennessee Legislative Network.

Mr. McNish is the Executive Director of the McKendree Village Foundation, which provides financial support to McKendree Village, Tennessee’s largest continuing care retirement center. He holds both a bachelor's and a master's degree. He and his wife, Ellen, have three children who all attended FSSD schools from kindergarten through the 8th grade. Kent's other three children graduated from Metro Nashville Public Schools. Two of his grandchildren also attend school in the FSSD.

Aside from his Board work, Mr. McNish is an actively involved member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin. He is also a member of the Franklin Breakfast Rotary Club, where he serves as Chair of the Membership Committee.

ImageTim Stillings
Secretary

Elected in 1998, Tim Stillings is serving his fourth four-year term on the board. He currently holds the position of School Board Secretary and he is the board-appointed delegate and representative to the National School Boards Association.

In 2009, Mr. Stillings achieved Level V boardsmanship status from the Tennessee School Boards Association. In addition, he was recognized with a 2008 National School Boards Association Distinguished Service Award for his significant contribution to public education.

He has been active in his service to the school system, serving voluntarily in 1997 as chairman of the Technology for the Future Task Force. He also served on a long-range Technology Planning Committee for the school district.

Mr. Stillings is employed by Diebold, Inc. as a Regional Manager, and his education includes a bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University and professional development from the University of Michigan.

He is active in the community as a member of the Franklin Noon Rotary Club, the Williamson County Republican Party, the Heritage Foundation, Franklin - Williamson County Chamber of Commerce, and First United Methodist Church.

Robin Newman photoRobin Newman

Mrs. Newman was appointed in 2008 to fill a vacant seat on the Board, then elected in 2010 to a four-year term. A graduate of The Ohio State University in allied medicine, she works part-time as a physical therapist with STAR Physical Therapy and as a consultant with the YMCA of Cool Springs' After Breast Cancer (ABC) program.
 
She has children in FSSD schools and is actively involved as a PTO parent volunteer in her children's schools and with their extracurricular activities. She chose to serve on the Board so she could carry on the district's legacy of a well-rounded, academically robust education to a diverse student population.
 
Her service to the school district also includes her service on the Advisory Council at Moore Elementary. In addition, she is active in her church and is a board member of her neighborhood association.
