The Franklin Special School District Child Nutrition Program’s mission is to provide nutritious, healthy meals for students and staff by managing the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch programs in all seven FSSD schools.

The Child Nutrition program is monitored by the Tennessee Department of Education Child Nutrition and the district auditors. New products are student-tested before they are added to the menu. Cafeteria managers and the district Child Nutrition Supervisor are available on site and by e-mail for feedback from both staff and students.

The Child Nutrition program supports the district’s vision “Excellence in Teaching and Learning for All” by providing students, staff and visitors with the opportunity to eat healthy nutritious meals, keeping them healthy and well nourished so they may excel.

Online Payment Service for Child Nutrition

The FSSD offers parents a convenient online way to manage their child's cafeteria account. Using PayPAMS, parents can pay for their students' meals online with a credit card or debit card ($25 minimum payment) from the comfort of their own homes or offices. PayPAMS also offers email notifications when your child’s account balance reaches a pre-defined amount.

PayPAMS is designed to provide parents with a safe and convenient way to prepay for student’s meals online. Parents can set up automatic payment plans, view balances and account history, and receive automated notification on balance status. The cost of this convenient service is $1.95 per transaction.

Philosophy
The Child Nutrition Program directs the operation of the cafeteria at each of the seven Franklin Special School District sites. The goal is to provide nutritious, healthy, exciting meals in a fun, relaxed dining environment. Each school has a manager who is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the dining hall. The district adheres to a traditional, food-based lunch menu. The three-week cycle menu offers all five required items:

  • One serving each of the Meat/Meat Alternate, Milk, Grain/Breads
  • Two servings of Vegetables/Fruits
Although students have the option of which item(s) to decline, a complete meal is encouraged. Each school has the latitude to offer additional items to the cycle menu.

Nutritional Analysis
Image The Nutriional Analyses for FSSD breakfast and lunch offerings are listed below and will provide you with calories, carbohydrates, and protein information for the daily menu. These are also available in each of the school clinics. If your child requires assistance with a special diet, please contact Child Nutrition Supervisor Marilyn Ryan at 794-6624.

Student Accounts
The Child Nutrition Program is self-supporting and oversees the collection of all cash transactions at each school site. The cafeterias use a software program, School Meal, for cash collection. Each student is assigned an individual account number which is used throughout the school year. When a student's account number is entered into the register, the account information appears on the register screen for the cashier. Pre-payments are appreciated, but single purchases are also welcomed. Breakfast, lunch, and a la carte items can be pre-paid together. Individual account information is available from the dining hall managers at each school. If parents want their children to purchase from a debit account, dining hall managers should be notified, otherwise a la carte sales will be for cash only. Each school offers a variety of a la carte items daily.
