The Franklin Special School District operates on two distinct calendars:

The Traditional Calendar follows the typical school year, with a longer summer break. This calendar is used by the following schools: Franklin Elementary, Johnson Elementary, Moore Elementary, Liberty Elementary, Freedom Intermediate and Freedom Middle.

In March 2010, the Balanced Calendar approved a shift in the balanced calendar to a 9 weeks in/2 weeks out schedule (formerly 3 weeks out). The Winter Holidays are the same as the traditional calendar, but this calendar includes a two week Fall Break and a two week Spring Break. During both of these breaks, there is a week long Intersession where students may choose to come to school on a modified schedule to participate in either enrichment or remediation courses. This calendar is used by Poplar Grove School.
